Open Water Diver training is designed to give you the basic knowledge and skills needed to explore the underwater environment. Specialty training takes you beyond those basic skills and prepares you to dive in a variety of situations and conditions, while increasing your confidence, making you a more comfortable and safe diver. New skills such as navigation, underwater photography, deep diving or night diving, broaden your diving experience, increase your appreciation for the underwater world, and are a whole lot of fun! Most Specialty Courses consist of a self-study text, short exam, and two dives.

SSI's Specialty Diver Program is designed to be taken right after the Open Water Course. This program consists of 2 Specialty Courses (4 dives) and is the next level of SSI Certification after Open Water Diver. Navigation, Night/Limited Visibility, Underwater Photography, Boat Diving, and Marine Identification, are just a few of the new skill sets you can learn. With the SSI program, you can take the Specialties that interest you the most while working towards higher certifications!

The Specialty Diver Certification consists of two Specialty Courses and the completion of 12 logged dives (including your Open Water certification dives). These can be made by diving on your own or by joining us on our Fun Dives, Boat Dives, or by taking more Specialty Courses. The Specialty Diver Program is $150* plus text books. The optional Specialty Diver Certification Card with up to 5 specialties listed and your current number of logged dives is $35.
